Metro-Meridian Updates

Metro-Meridian has had a very successful first semester of school.  So far, we have six students who have met the requirements of graduation and rang their bells to signify they are finished.  We expect to have more seniors meet their graduation requirements and ring their bells in the coming months of school.

Our students participated in United Way activities and helped raise money for this organization that gives so much to our community.  Our students received an award from United Way for their efforts.  Metro-Meridian was runner-up to East High School coordinating efforts to raise money.

Metro-Meridian donated 185 turkeys to our district's annual turkey drive to benefit the First Methodist Church's effort to help those in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. For our size school, Metro-Meridian finished first.  We would like to thank the students, staff, and community patrons who donated turkeys to help our cause.

As the new semester begins, Metro-Meridian students are taking classes at Wichita Area Technical College to receive both high school and college credit.  It is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn skills that will be used in their future after high school.  We are excited we have more students than ever participating in this wonderful program.

As second semester begins, we would like to remind parents the importance for your student to attend school daily.  Regular attendance leads to opportunities for success with every credit earned.  It is our goal for each student to earn six full credits every year to graduate with their class.  To graduate, a student must complete 23 credits before the end of their senior year.

Parents, remember, a student who misses 10 days or more during the school year is 20 percent less likely to graduate from high school and 25 percent less likely to ever enroll in college.  This is from the Attendance Works website.

Welcome to Meridian!  We are "The Little School with a BIG Heart!"  The menu on the left will direct you to all the important information you will need about what is going on at our school.  Our staff have their own staff and classroom pages to use those pages as a communications tool with you, our students, parents, and potential students!

At Meridian, our students participate in many campaigns to help our community.  Meridian students have helped with the district's Turkey Drive during November, helping a family during the holidays, participating in blood drives through the Red Cross during both semesters, the Salvation Army food drive, and having a Schooner Mate for the just completed River Festival.  There are many other activities our students participate to help our community.  It is a way Meridian "Pays It Forward" to help others in the community.

We are proud of our seniors for meeting their graduation requirements and ringing the school bells three times to signal the end of their secondary education.  We wish them well in their future endeavors of post-secondary education, trade school, military service, or entering the work force.
