The format and process of earning course credit at Metro-Meridian Alternative
High School are rooted in our Mission and philosophy. Therefore,
student/teacher interaction and textbook work differ greatly from the standard
practices in a comprehensive high school.
Course Syllabus
A course syllabus is given to students at the beginning of their enrollment in
class. The syllabus outlines the work the student must complete in order
to earn course credit. All course syllabi are designed to meet district
curriculum guidelines.
Folders
Students will be provided a folder in each class. This folder will
contain: 1) the course syllabus, 2) classroom work done by the student, 3) a
calendar and record of attendance, and 4) an account of the number of points
accrued by the student. This folder is not to be taken from the
classroom without the approval of the teacher.
Credit
Course credit is issued based on the following criteria:
1. Completion of course requirements as designated by the course syllabus.
2. Courses are designed for 90 classroom hours. At an accelerated
pace, the student may complete all required work in a minimum of 60 classroom
hours.
Homework
Homework will be accepted with the prior approval of the teacher.
Conditions for teacher approval include good class attendance and student effort
in class. (Hours spent on homework do not count toward the minimum 60
classroom hours required for course credit.)
